Top 5 Tips to Fly Like a Pro!

12th October 2023

Our Instructors and sport flyers make flying look like a breeze! You might be wondering how they’re able to spin and glide and soar, free as a bird. You might be a little bit scared of indoor skydiving for the first time. Or, you might be looking for ways to get better at flying! Regardless of who you are, how old you are, or how much you’ve flown before, these tips, direct from our Instructors, will help you fly like a pro.

Tip #1 – Practise

This might sound obvious at first, but hear us out. Practise makes perfect, so the best thing you can do to learn to fly is... just keep flying! The more time you spend indoor skydiving in the tunnel, the more comfortable you’ll become with the feeling of wind beneath you. You’ll also be able to practise different moves and techniques.

It’s crucial to remember that everyone learns differently, and at different rates. You might not be able to become an indoor skydiving pro in a week, but keep at it, and it’ll become easier with every flight! Just fly more! Our Fast Track and Block Time packages are perfect for flying a ton of time.

Tip #2 – Hire a Coach

Coaches are professional flyers who are offering private training to other flyers. While some have become official iFLY Instructors, all of them offer private coaching using our tunnels. Coaches are a great way to progress in the sport of bodyflight, since you’ll be given direct feedback during and after your flight. You’ll want to have a general idea of how quickly you want to progress, or the skills you want to learn and crush, but even if you don’t, your coach can help you with that!

Coaches also frequently host camps, week-long dedicated coaching sessions where you can purchase time from the hosting coach in one place. It’s also a great way to meet other professionals and flyers who are training to fly, too!

Tip #3 – Chat to an Instructor

Our Instructors are always keen for a chin-wag about indoor skydiving! For many of our Instructors, indoor skydiving is their number one passion, and they became Instructors to help share the magic and fun of indoor skydiving with people of all ages and skill levels. If you’ve come up with a burning question, wave one of them down and ask! They’ll be more than happy to answer your question... and then some!

Tip #4 – Watch other people fly

Observing other flyers – the way they control their bodies, entering and exiting the tunnel, how they fly, positions, techniques – is another great way to learn how to fly. You’ll be able to see the different ways people fly. If you’re with a coach or Instructor, you can even ask them their opinions on the other person’s flying, to learn more about why they’re flying a certain way, or what the move they’re doing is called and how it’s done.

Tip #5 – Relax!

The single most important thing to remember when in the tunnel is to just relax and have fun! You are perfectly safe in the hands of your Instructor and the Driver. Breathing in the wind is easy, as long as you stay calm. You’ll also have much greater control over your arms and legs. Flying is fun, and there’s nothing to be afraid of!

If you are nervous, talk to your Instructor before your session, and they’ll be able to provide some insight or advice on how to relax and enjoy your flight. 🤙

Remember, flying is all about fun! These tips will help you maximise your fun in the tunnel, and help you progress in the sport of bodyflight, too. Finally, you can always talk to any Instructor or our customer service team to help you soar! Whether you’re a licensed, experienced skydiver looking to prepare for the next time you jump from a plane, or you want to take your first steps to soaring in a wind tunnel, we want to help! Blue skies, skydiver! 🪂
